Geography is a science that examines and interprets the laws of causal and functional interconnections of the phenomena on Earth's surface (space) and their spatial interdependence. Its complex conception of geographic reality represents an important point of observation and interpretation of the processes taking place in the modern world. This gives geography a special social position in science, practice, and education. The Department of Geography and its extensive pedagogical and scientific-research activities thus play an important role in educating young geographers, developing new knowledge, and employing the same in practice.
